potatoes

Planted the seed potatoes, 5 of swift (1st early) and 5 of vivaldi (2nd early).  Not doing any maincrop this year, we don't eat enough potatoes to make it worth while.

The new pear tree has buds, whether it will be up to speed by pollinating time is another question.

Dug out the loganberry, which seems to have croaked over winter.  Just in case it isn't dead, I have potted it up.

new pear tree

Decision made!  Rather than discard my existing pear tree I have bought another one as a pollen-mate to it.  It is an Invincible columnar, and a suitable mate for the Loffelbirne.  Let's hope that they realise this too.  The Invincible is also supposed to be good in the north and this specimen looks good.  We'll see.  I planted it the ground rather than a pot.  Bought from Chris Bowers @ £19.95 + postage of approx £8.
